SAM Entertainment

How is SAM Entertainment different from other agencies?

SAM Entertainment provides live music and DJs of any musical style, for any occasion and any budget. We guarantee a high quality and personal service to ensure client and artist satisfaction.

The agency offers a comprehensive service to all clients and artists and with strict vetting processes only the most professional and high quality acts will feature with us.

SAM Entertainment do not believe every act will be suitable for every occasion and will always be honest with recommendations for all events.

Each individual booking is tailored to suit the requirements of the client and the occasion.

We operate a Price Promise system whereby we will beat any quote from other agencies for a similar act – Terms and Conditions apply.*There are no hidden costs or applied charges when booking through SAM Entertainment. All quotes are correct and inclusive of VAT.

Any act of any style can be sourced for your event. Should SAM Entertainment not already have the right act for you, ask us for more help and we can find the perfect performance. Sourcing local acts to the venue enables us to keep the cost of the booking at a minimum without compromising the highest quality.

Customers are able to search through the various categories and acts online, listening to examples of their performances using the profile pages. These pages feature information about the act, including sample set lists and testimonials so you can have a sense of their previous performances and be assured the artist is the professional you wish to hire.

All artists are promoted and booked for events based on the high quality of the act and the professionalism of the artist.

As a young and vibrant company, SAM Entertainment are always looking for new opportunities for growth and success – appreciating the use of technology and social media as well as the personal touch.

SAM Entertainment are teamed with Riverside Recording Studio (RRS) and Sandwave Productions based in Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex (10 minutes from Brighton) which offers full professional recording and production facilities – consisting of a state-of-the-art 48 channel Roland digital mixing desk, high performance microphones and a high end digital control rack, running a custom built PC with Sonar 8.5 producer, in conjunction with Logic pro 8 mixing and mastering software and over £30k worth of perfectly maintained equipment, Riverside Recording Studio and Sandwave Productions can capture and produce anything from a solo artist, full band or musical ensemble either live or multi-tracked.

All agents based at SAM Entertainment are available for consultation via phone, e-mail or face-to-face meetings whenever possible, always maintaining a close relationship with our clients and artists to ensure the highest standard of live music entertainment.

*Terms and Conditions: Price by 3rd party must be proven with an official quote. This only applies if the booking is exactly the same in terms of length of performance, time/date of performance, venue, style of music and number of band members. The quote must be from another official entertainments agency that is a registered company (Company Registration No required). New price is subject to being agreed with the ‘artist’.

What are the risks of booking an act outside of an agency?

There are several reasons why it can be dangerous to book an act outside of an agency; simply put they have no legal obligation to adhere to your booking.

If you do not know the act personally, they have no reason to be loyal to the agreement and can often withdraw from the event at the option of a better offer – this cannot happen when contracted through an agency.

At SAM Entertainment, we pride ourselves on supplying the most professional, high quality and reliable musicians. The artists are not only bound by legal contracts, they are loyal to the service on offer at the agency and will not behave in a way which is detrimental to their reputation or that of SAM Entertainment.

When a deposit is exchanged through SAM Entertainment, contracts are issued and the booking is finalised. If you pay a deposit to a local band perhaps, there is no one to help you should the band split up or not return your calls for example.

All bookings are secured and protected through the agency, and in the event of an emergency, your entertainment agent will be on hand to solve any last minute problems should they arise.

If you wish to contact SAM Entertainment for further information, please use the details provided here.

How do you choose the artists for the agency?

SAM Entertainment provide live music and DJS of any style of music, for any type of event and for any budget, sourcing only the highest quality, professional musicians to represent the agency to the highest standard.

Artists can apply online through the website here and the application will go through a strong vetting process.

If the submitted application is below standard or incomplete, they will not be accepted at this time.

All artists are vetted and when approved uploaded to the website as an active member of the agency portfolio.

Testimonials from previous clients and the quality of personal portfolio examples such as audio content are extremely important in this process, and in turn for prospective clients to view on the website as this ultimately decides whether the artist is correct for the event. View our testimonials page here for more information.

Are SAM Entertainment artist management?

No, SAM Entertainment provide live music and DJs for any type of corporate or private event – such as corporate awards and networking events or private parties and weddings.

The agency does not provide an artist management service in that we do not represent you as a promoter or record label would, however artists are promoted in terms of events management and live music entertainment campaigns.

However, if you are looking to record, be produced or visit with a record label – SAM Entertainment are teamed with Riverside Recording Studio (RRS) and Sandwave Productions based in Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex (10 minutes from Brighton) which offers full professional recording and production facilities. SAM Entertainment act on behalf of the artist and client, and work to achieve the best events entertainment experience for all parties. The agency promotes itself and all acts to the highest standard at all times and ensure the acts represent themselves and SAM Entertainment accordingly.

Unfortunately due to the nature of live music entertainment, the acts are unable to travel and perform as an audition, as they are working around the UK and abroad performing professionally on a regular basis.

SAM Entertainment are unlike other agencies and do have the facility of Riverside Recording Studio (RRS) based at the HQ in Shoreham-by-Sea (10 minutes from Brighton, Sussex) and so on occasion it is possible for clients to meet for a rehearsal and live show performance. Please note this is not viable for all acts and some additional charges may be incurred.

Alternatively, where some of our acts will be performing in a public setting we can arrange for the details to be issued to the public, again please note this is not feasible for all acts and any attempt to book directly through the artist will be in breach of the artist contract with SAM Entertainment and the Terms and Conditions issued to all parties with every quote.

To read the Terms and Conditions please click here.

All parties receive a comprehensive and legally binding contract once the booking is confirmed with the deposit and so, along with our 24 hours emergency support, you can be assured your booking is secure.

For a full copy of the SAM Entertainment Terms and Conditions please click here.

What is the ‘Rider’?

The contract may be subject to a ‘rider’ containing the artists’ requirements for food, accommodation, dressing rooms, technical specifications etc… Please see full artist rider on the front of the contract.

The ‘rider’ forms an integral part of the contract and must be provided by the client at their own expense.

In most cases, this will be to provide a safe performance space typically at least 3m x 3m with 2 electrical plug sockets and the provision of free soft drinks to the artist throughout the performance.

The accommodation and dressing rooms stipulation is a rare occurrence where artists are required for a long duration, overnight stay or multiple performances for example.

As with all bookings, the ‘rider’ will be specified on the contract and if you have any questions or queries related to this, please contact your SAM Entertainment agent using the contact details here.

My venue has a sound limiter – is this a problem?

Sound limiters measure and control the level of sound in the room – then cut the electrical supply should the threshold be breached for more than approx. 10-20secs. If possible, we always advise customers to avoid venues with a sound limiter in place, but if this is not possible there are usually ways to avoid disappointment.

Unfortunately, if the limit is set too low it will not be possible for some bands to perform. A band can only perform as quiet as the drum kit whilst unamplified – and with the rest of the band still audible above this level.

In most cases, bands will be able to control their sound levels around 95db. If levels are too high but the venue can see the band are in good faith attempting to adhere to the limits they may decide to remove or increase the limit and the performance can continue.

For more information, speak with you SAM Entertainment agent or e-mail the enquiry to info@SAMlive.co.uk

Artists

Why should I join SAM Entertainment – how are you different from other agencies?

SAM Entertainment is a professional agency, specialising in live music and DJs of any style of music for any type of event.

All artists are promoted and booked for events based on the high quality of the act and the professionalism of the artist.

SAM Entertainment is part of the Sussex Academy of Music Group, which also includes Riverside Recording Studio based in Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex (10 minutes from Brighton) which offers full professional recording and production facilities – consisting of a state-of-the-art 48 channel Roland digital mixing desk, high performance microphones and a high end digital control rack, running a custom built PC with Sonar 8.5 producer, in conjunction with Logic pro 8 mixing and mastering software and over £30k worth of perfectly maintained equipment, Riverside Recording Studio can capture and produce anything from a solo artist, full band or musical ensemble either live or multi-tracked.

SAM Entertainment will only accept those artists who can provide an excellent service to the client and adhere to the Terms and Conditions of every booking. Click here to download a PDF version.

All agents based at SAM Entertainment are available for consultation via phone, e-mail or face-to-face meetings whenever possible, always maintaining a close relationship with our artists to ensure the highest standard of live music entertainment.

How do I join the agency?

To join SAM Entertainment, simply fill in the application form online here – all media content submitted should be agency friendly and not include any personal contact details for use in promotion.

Please remember to include high quality media and MP3 demos as this will largely be the deciding factor of the application.

It is important that all artists are represented to the best of our ability and this is reflected in the way your online profile is viewed.

High quality recordings are imperative and you should not sell yourself short with rushed and inferior versions of your performances. If you do not have these, we can arrange for professional recording sessions at Riverside Recording Studios in West Sussex.

This includes all imagery – clients will look at your photos and decide if they want you at their event. Remember to always look professional and approachable.

The biography is where you can sell your act to the client and convince them you are the best choice. Include past experiences, qualifications and other options i.e. if you perform as a duo as well as full band etc…

We also require a sample set list or example repertoire to include on the profile – this can give the client more of an insight to your performance and encourage them to choose you.

Remember to include testimonials from previous clients – this not only acts as a reference but will ensure the client feels happy with their choice to hire you.

How much does it cost to join SAM Entertainment?

There is no fee to join SAM Entertainment, nor will you incur any charges for promotion and marketing.

Additional services are available at discounted rates for SAM Entertainment artists such as professional recording, photography, videography etc…

SAM Entertainment act on behalf of the artist and clients, and work to achieve the best events entertainment experience for all parties. The agency promotes itself and all acts to the highest standard at all times and asks that you represent yourself and SAM Entertainment accordingly.

SAM Entertainment has a fixed commission agency fee at a competitive rate which is added to your NET fee and is inclusive of VAT. This fee is non-negotiable and added to the cost of every booking – acting as the security deposit and taken immediately as confirmation.

Once we have the deposit, contracts are generated for all parties involved and the booking finalised.

Artists will receive payment on or before the date of the event in the form of cash or cheque, directly from the client.

Why has my application taken time to process / why have I been denied?

Due to the high volume of applications and the careful process by which each artist is vetted and approved, it can take up to a few weeks to confirm a successful application.

If you are awaiting confirmation, please be patient, this is due to the care SAM Entertainment agents give each artist application to ensure the best quality of acts for our clients.

If you wish to contact and agent, please e-mail artists@SAMlive.co.uk with the name of your act and your question and we will respond as soon as possible.

If your application has not been successful at this time, the most common reasons are:

  • Poor quality demo recordings
  • Lack of content and/or experience
  • No testimonials
  • Low standard pictures which are unusable for promotion
  • Looking for artist management and not agency events work
  • Videos submitted of low quality and/or feature contact details
  • No sample set list / repertoire
  • Not suitable for the agency

Should you wish to discuss your application further, please contact artists@SAMlive.co.uk
Please note SAM Entertainment will only accept the best to represent the agency and so, should you be unsuccessful, revisit the reasons given and apply again with new material at a later date.

Why do I need an ‘alias’ name?

It is standard agency policy that you are represented by SAM Entertainment using an ‘alias’ name for your act.

This is simply for representation and promotional purposes to ensure our agents are not working to secure bookings and then the artist is contacted directly by the client.

The alternative name can be decided by you or you can opt for your artist liaison agent to offer some suggestions for consideration. Sometimes this will simply be using the first name instead of a full name, or can be entirely different.

All act names will be confirmed and agreed by both parties before the account is activated with the agency.

Should you have any further questions or queries on this matter, please e-mail artists@SAMlive.co.uk for assistance.

How often will I get work?

SAM Entertainment provide live music entertainment for all types of events – including corporate functions, weddings and smaller ‘Regular Venues’ gigs.

The agency endeavour to secure bookings on a daily basis and in utilising every artist where possible to the best of their strengths and availability we are able to complete enquiries very promptly.

It is important you build a strong working relationship with the agency – ensuring every performance is of the best standard, all artists are professional, courteous and reliable and that you are available for contact with quick responses when we have an enquiry.

SAM Entertainment offer the chance to become a ‘featured act’ – to be one of our top acts you will provide the above and more.

Featured acts receive more enquiries and therefore more paid work. Providing you have a good relationship with the agency and are competitive in your prices, you will receive work whenever possible as with all artists on the agency. As you perform more and more for SAM Entertainment, you will be considered for ‘featured’ status.

Please remember all artists are considered to be the highest quality if included within the agency, and these ‘featured’ acts will change from time to time and are by no means exclusive or the only artists who receive work.

It is important you sell your act on your profile and in person. The more recommended you become the more work you will receive.

SAM Entertainment act on behalf of the artist and work to achieve the best events entertainment experience for the client. The agency promotes itself and all acts to the highest standard at all times and asks that you represent yourself and SAM Entertainment accordingly.

Please ensure you are contactable by phone and e-mail to avoid disappointment as all bookings will be scheduled on a first come first served basis.

I do not have recorded material – i.e. MP3s and Videos for my application

SAM Entertainment agents will review every application individually and vet the success based on the quality of the media submitted.

The audio content you submit will account for 95% of your application success – therefore it is extremely important you include your best work.

You should not use material that does not reflect the quality of your performance. This is your chance to sell yourself, and successful applicants will have an online profile which will include the material. Clients will not wish to book an act that has a sub-standard recording and the agency will therefore not use this content on the website.

Visit the Riverside Recording Studio for more information.

The agency can also provide access to professional photographers and videographers – please e-mail info@SAMlive.co.uk for more information.

What is the Regular Venues program?

The Regular Venues program is a scheme set up to ensure artists receive regular paid work – particularly aimed at smaller gigs such as restaurant and pub evenings.

This is a fixed price scheme and artists are paid directly on the night by the client.
The fee is offered to the client at a heavily reduced rate to ensure the regular work – and will primarily be on weeknights where your usual fee will not apply.

SAM Entertainment offers this incentive to clients based on the weekly/fortnightly/monthly booking system and all events are scheduled accordingly in advance.

The bookings are subject to change and should we have to alter the scheduled billing, you may receive a last minute call to fill in. Please remember if you wish to be involved with the program, to remain contactable by phone or e-mail as all events will be offered on a first come first served basis.

For more information, please e-mail artists@SAMlive.co.uk referencing Regular Venues.

How will I get paid for the performance?

Artists will be paid the agreed, contracted fee directly by the client on or before the day of the event – in most cases this will be on the date of the performance.

Contracts specify artists are to be paid by cash or cheque.

SAM Entertainment’s agency fee/commission is fixed at a competitive rate and non-negotiable. This fee is taken to confirm the booking and act as the clients’ deposit. This figure is inclusive of all VAT charges and the remaining balance of the booking fee is NET to the artist.

Please see the Terms and Conditions (available for download here) for further information.

Will I still get paid if the event is cancelled?

The payment of fees is dependent on the circumstances surrounding the cancellation, although in most situations there will be at least a proportionate fee payment made should the client cancel the booking for a particular reason.

Please refer to the SAM Entertainment Terms and Conditions (available for download here) for detailed information.

If you have any further questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
